All part of the job!

I love this boy. My son was "good as gold and better", as Bob Cratchit in Christmas Carol said. This picture was taken after 3 hours waiting in the urgent care.

"And how did little Tim behave?" asked Mrs. Cratchit... "As good as gold," said Bob, "and better. Somehow he gets thoughtful, sitting by himself so much, and thinks the strangest things you ever heard."

My son asked me after the first hour and a half at the hospital what Urgent meant. "Well, Urgent means quickly or fast or needed right away", I said. "And what does Care mean"? "Uh, that means to help. To care for someone". After a few seconds he says to me, "So that sign means fast help. We have been here a long time dad. When can we go home?"

And three and half hours later we finally arrived home.

  1. i loved your description of your son..very eloquent (and true! :) Well, this is the beginning of teaching your son about the inconsistencies of what one "says" and what one "does"...such as urgent care being "not so urgent" :) susan in indiana

  6. One of the benefits of the urgent care is that the results of most tests come back while you wait rather than having to go back to your doctor's office in a few days to get the results. So in that perspective, 3 1/2 hours isn't always so bad. But that kiddo is way to cute to have to wait for anything. I hope he's feeling better.

  7. How blessed your son is...to have a dad who thinks so highly of him...who takes the time to listen to him...who sets the example of how to conduct one's self when waiting in the urgent care queue. Keep up the patient, loving fathering!

  9. I wasn't exactly setting an example. Afraid that they would call us before we came back, we ran down the hallways to the other side of the hospital in search of the cafeteria.
