Jury Duty

I was ready...
I brought two books...
I brought a pocket full of quarters...
I waited for seven hours...
They never called...

I want to be on a County Jury
so that I can experience our system in action
and do my part to Protect and Serve
and provide Justice to all.
But I was not needed.
Sigh, disappointment, maybe next year.

BUT WAIT...
What's this?
A summons for all of next month for the Federal Courts up north.
Drive two hours,
stay overnight
with the potential of serving on a six month trial.
Six months!
Never mind!

The Audacity of Growth

While trimming the Mulberry Tree, which has the great audacity to grow into the overhanging power lines each and every year, I noticed the rope that we had looped around a branch last spring.  The kids have used it as a Tarzan Swinging Vine, a step up into the tree, a swing and the always popular "whip my sibling tool of death."

It is a good rope that began its' life as a rope for toddlers at church to hold onto as they walk from the classroom to the playground.  The tree had grown around this wonderful rope and here I stood, chainsaw in hand. I had no choice.

So I began, small surgical cuts, holding my breath, as I began to free this valiant captive of uncontrolled growth and mischievous mulberryness.  Little by little, slowly, carefully until at the end I carefully peeled back the small pieces remaining and released the rope.  The rope is still there waiting for tomorrow, waiting for the kids to come back outside and play.

Too Busy To Blog

Me, my dust mask, my sander, and conservative talk radio. I'm good to go!

This is a huge job. I did break down and buy the palm sander.

See this junky peeling paint! Now I have to sand it all down and start over.

I'll be around eventually.

Directions are for Losers

"Read each step carefully before starting. It is very important that each step of instruction is performed in the correct order. If these instructions are not followed in sequence, assembly difficulties or death will occur."

"Visit our website for assembly video clips."

"Never scoot your furniture on carpet."

I put together a new bookshelf for my daughter. A chance to be a hero. A chance to be a master engineer. A chance to mess up and put the colored backing on... backwards. Grey side up! Well, we did buy two, better luck next time.

Always read the directions.

I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me.
Riches and honor are with me,
enduring wealth and righteousness.
and my yield than choice silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness,
in the paths of justice,
granting an inheritance to those who love me,
and filling their treasuries.
Proverbs 8:17-21

Sick as a...

No fever, so it probably isn't swine flu. Right! Right!
